The process is the same whether it is a 600-square-foot garage or a shop floor several times that size, it just scales. We start with a coarse 30-to-50-grit metal-bond diamond cut that opens the slab, exposes aggregate where the design wants it, and grinds off old paint, adhesive and contamination, no chemical strippers. That first cut is where the whole polish is decided, because a polish only reveals what the grind sets up. Skip the prep and you get a shiny version of a bad floor.

After the opening cut we flood the slab with a lithium silicate densifier. It reacts with the calcium hydroxide in the concrete and hardens the wear surface, testing thirty to fifty percent harder than untreated concrete. This is the step that stops a polished floor from dusting and is the difference between a floor that holds its shine and one that wears dull in the traffic lanes. From there we run the resin-diamond polish, 200-grit up through 800, 1500 and a final 3000-grit burnish, and we stop at the sheen you chose: satin at 400, semi-gloss at 800, full gloss at 1500 plus the burnish.

Almost any sound Owatonna slab is a candidate. A clean, flat, modern garage or shop floor polishes fast and bright. An older slab with patches, oil staining or thinset from an old floor can still take a polish, but it grinds slower and the aggregate may read differently, so we always test-grind a corner first and show you the real result before we run the whole floor. Cracking and major spalling are the deal-breakers, and we will tell you straight if a slab is better repaired or replaced than polished.

For the commercial customer, the math is simple: a polished floor outlasts an epoxy or urethane coating by years, never needs a recoat, and the slip resistance is tunable for a workspace.
