Owatonna is an older town than Byron, and that changes the driveway work. A lot of what we pour here is tear-out and replacement on slabs that went in thirty or forty years ago, back when wire mesh and a thin base were considered good enough. By now those driveways have crumbled at the apron, heaved at the joints, and settled hard against the garage where water pools and freezes. We break the old slab out, haul it off, and most importantly we re-grade and recompact the base underneath, because the failure usually started in the dirt, not the concrete.

Either way the control joints get saw-cut within twelve hours so the slab cracks on the lines we set, not across the open field of the driveway.
