We do not pour on what we cannot stand on.

Four inches of compacted Class 5 base, grade set for drainage, vapor barriers where the spec calls for them. Luck gets you through one winter. Prep gets you through twenty.

Half-inch steel rebar. Every slab.

Wire mesh lifts when you walk a wet pour. Half-inch steel on sixteen-inch centers, sitting dead-center in the slab, right where freeze-thaw stress wants to split it.

Do you handle the prep work yourself?

We handle it all. Topsoil strip, excavation to depth, grading for drainage, and four inches of compacted Class 5 base. We don’t sub the prep out because the prep decides whether your slab holds or cracks.

What reinforcement do you use, and why?

Half-inch steel rebar on sixteen-inch centers, placed on chairs so it sits dead-center in the slab. Wire mesh is cheaper but it lifts during the pour and ends up at the bottom where it does nothing for tensile stress.

How does your concrete hold up to Minnesota winters?

Freeze/thaw survival is engineered, not hoped for. Air-entrained mix, proper cure time before first freeze, control joints within 12 hours, and positive drainage so water never sits on the slab.

Are quotes free, and how long do they take?

Floors That Stay Flat And Dry

What goes under the floor decides everything.

A garage floor, a basement slab, an addition floor, or a workshop pour all share the same enemy: water coming up from below. Concrete wicks moisture, and a floor poured straight on dirt with no vapor barrier will sweat in the summer, frost-heave in the winter, and ruin whatever flooring or coating you put on top of it. We pour interior floors the right way around. Under every slab goes a properly lapped vapor barrier, four inches of compacted base, and rigid foam insulation where the room is heated, so the floor stays dry, holds its temperature, and gives a radiant system something to work against if you are running tubing.

The flatness of an interior floor matters more than people expect. A garage floor that is out of level lets water pool against the wall instead of running to the door. A basement slab with high and low spots telegraphs through tile and laminate and shows every time the light hits it. We hand-trowel interior floors to a hairline flatness and pitch them to drain where a drain exists, because the finish work is the part you live with every day for the next thirty years. Half-inch rebar or a proper steel mat goes in every structural floor, set dead-center, and we saw-cut control joints on a clean layout so the slab cracks where we put the line and not across the open floor.

Even an indoor floor has to respect a Minnesota winter. An unheated garage slab swings with the outside temperature, so we use a mix built to take that movement and give it real cure time before the cold sets in. Under-slab insulation keeps a heated shop or basement from bleeding warmth into the frost line, which is the difference between a floor that is comfortable to stand on and one that is cold the whole season. Poured For The Finish You Want

A floor you can build on later.

Most interior floors are not the finish, they are the foundation for it. A garage you plan to epoxy, a basement you are going to finish into living space, a shop floor you want polished down the road: each one starts with concrete poured clean, flat, and dense enough to take a coating without telegraphing every trowel mark and low spot. We pour with that next step in mind. We tell you up front whether you are planning to coat, tile, or polish, and we finish the slab to suit it, because a floor troweled too slick will not bond a coating and a floor left too open will dust and pit. Getting that right at the pour saves you a grinding bill later.

The slab also has to fit the room it lives in. A heated workshop wants under-slab foam and a hard trowel so tool chests roll smooth and the floor holds warmth. A basement that is going to carry framed walls and a finished floor wants a dead-flat slab and a vapor barrier you can trust, since there is no fixing a moisture problem once the drywall is up. An addition slab has to tie cleanly into the existing foundation and match its elevation so the new floor and the old floor meet without a lip. We take the time to set all of that before the truck arrives, because the floor is the one part of the room you cannot redo without tearing everything else back out.

When the pour is done we walk you through the cure: how long before you can set foot on it, how long before you load it up, and when it is ready to coat or cover.
